GEN Algeria Disrupts Entrepreneurship Education

GEN AFRICA | FEBRUARY 27, 2018

ELIP Grand Opening Ceremony

Start, Launch, Connect, Accelerate and Win are the 5 pillars of the Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Innovation Program (ELIP) launched on the 20th of February 2018, by GEN Algeria, in partnership with the US-MEPI – Middle East Partnership Initiative.

Designed by Fatiha Rachedi, the ELIP is an eighteen month program that aims to cover every step of a startup learning journey with ELIP Start, ELIP Launch, ELIP Connect, ELIP Accelerate and ELIP Win. Each step responds to different needs and requirements and aims at taking participants from idea stage to startup creation and acceleration, assisting  in establishing a strong growth strategy and a solid network of mentors for maximum impact.

GEN Algeria will empower the selected 1,200 students, aged between 18 and 24 years old, guiding them through a unique entrepreneurial experience in over 20 campuses around the country. Not only does the program aim to teach required skills, it also focuses on bringing necessary cultural changes and advocating for a new way of integrating entrepreneurship curricula in higher education.
Thirty local leaders participated in the ELIP training of trainers, to discover the best processes and tools used to guide aspiring entrepreneurs through the acceleration programs. The workshop was lead by a team of four international coaches -Andre Abi Awad, founder of Entreprenergy, Fredell Jacobs Chief Startup Officer at Startup Support South Africa, Olesea Fortuna President of GEN Moldova and Henrik Scheel, CEO of Startup Experience.

Over the next eighteen months, a jury will select the best few for one-on-one coaching, access to knowledge and resources. The best startup ideas will get continuous mentorship, connections to a network of local investors and extensive support and guidance.

The focus is not only to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitude necessary to achieve the goals students have set out for themselves, because these aspiring entrepreneurs will be motivated to take action and execute. It is for GEN Algeria to be a catalyst for the next generation of entrepreneurs, assist in building successful ventures and showcase success stories to inspire solve local problems.

GEN Algeria’s overreaching vision is to make entrepreneurship education and experiential learning a basic feature in Algeria’s education system by encouraging creative thinking and promoting a strong sense of self-worth, entrepreneurship initiative and resilience.
